my golfers

sometimes when i'm playing golf, i'll get behind a group of 4 men.  in the time that it takes me to play an entire hole (and i'm walking!), those 4 men will have made it from the green to their cart to the next tee box.  to say they are slow is an understatement.  a blind turtle could probably play faster than they do.  but i can't get upset at them.  they are pushing 90, and everything they do is slow.  i don't know how one of them even swings a club because he has trouble walking.  but they are having a grand old time!  they are laughing and sharing stories while playing a game they love, albeit at an excruciatingly painful pace!!  i usually just get to a spot where i can skip in front of them and play on.  then i'll come back to the holes i've missed later.  this would probably make most people behind them upset.  it makes me laugh.  mostly because i know that in 50+ years, my kids will be that turtle group!!!

wes, william, mason, and clay

these 4 boys have spent a good bit of time swinging clubs together.  they finished up golf camp this past week.  i love that they will have a foundation in a sport that they can play for the rest of their lives.  not that i don't love all sports and hope to be cheering in different high school gyms across our state, but how many 90 year olds do you know that play baseball, soccer or basketball?  they may not be able to hit it long or hit it straight at 90, but at least they will be able to be out there together enjoying it!

"golf is the closest game to the game we call life.  you get bad breaks from good shots;  you get good breaks from bad shots - but you have to play the ball where it lies."  - Bobby Jones
