teenager #2

wes turned 13 a few weeks ago.  we celebrated with lots of sugar, and new tennis, golf, and skating gear!  i'll just let the facebook recap suffice for this post!

Today begins a new era….two teenagers in the house. Just a few years ago, Wes was a world champion thumb sucker and the most laid back toddler in the world. Today, he’s almost as tall as me with a mouth full of metal. He loves to eat out, but he likes to cook, too. There is not a sweet that he will say no to. The Dodgers are still his favorite. He laughs easily, and slapstick humor gets him every time. He hates being the center of attention. He has a love/hate relationship with online school during corona….loves that it’s online, hates that it takes more than 15 minutes. He can make friends with a brick wall. He loves a back rub. Tennis and golf are still his things, but if ripstik (or riding on anything with wheels) was a school sport he would be the first one to sign up! He hates when William is in charge of the radio in the car. Frozen Rainy Day Lattes from Strange Brew are the way to his heart. He can’t remember sunscreen to save his life. He likes his alone time, and don’t get in his way when he’s ready to go to bed. He does not like to stay up late! A bowl of Lucky Charms is good at any time of day. He loves a fire. He really puts thought into what people like, and he gives great gifts. Tacos and sushi are at the top of his list. Abe is his favorite, but dogs in general make him happy. He loves to travel, and hotel rooms are awesome. Bobby Bones is his favorite in the mornings. He still doesn’t brush his hair or have a clue how to match clothes. He would be content to just wear the same thing every day and usually just rotates between the same two shirts “because they are just on the top of the stack in my drawer.” He will do his best to figure out the easiest way to do anything. Elevators are still just as much fun as ever. He is Reed’s biggest cheerleader. He loves Mississippi State. Baseball games are his favorite. Every pillow, sheet, blanket, etc., has to be perfect before he goes to sleep. Fantasy and history are the books he gravitates to the most. Guy Fieri will always make him stop changing channels. He has lived his best life during this quarantine. He has strengthened relationships with friends in the neighborhood, played hours of ping pong, ridden miles of bike trails, and realized that fishing is pretty fun. He loves a petit four, so I made sure that today we celebrated with BOY petit fours…none of those frilly, flowery kinds! ðŸ™‚ Happy 13, Wes!

no awards day for wes

corona messed up the end of the year, and wes' school just didn't even do awards day.  just as well.  there is not a kid anywhere that hates awards day more than this one!  it doesn't matter if he's on the receiving or not.  he'd just rather not sit through it.  and honestly, after having mail in awards days and video awards days.....i kind of hope that these abbreviated versions stick around when things get back to normal!  team wes!  he did have all As for the year, so we'll give him a high five for that one!

i made him take a picture when he went to clean out his locker.  goodbye, milam.  hello, middle school!

scenes from quarantine

these are in no particular order because let's be honest....we have no idea what day it is.  at least once a day, somebody asks, "what day is it today?"

wes and reed made their own parfaits one afternoon.  and, then they ate them out of crystal glasses. with plastic spoons.  that is what you call fancy.

reed started out doing a lego challenge where he made different things every day and checked them off of a calendar.

a boat to escape a deserted island...

i can't remember what the challenge was this day...

a set for a new star wars movie (the camera men and the director are in the background)...

nasa needed a new rocketship...

the yard boys got their work in.  multiple times.

church...

pencil puzzle...

school...

he spends half the day like this in one spot or another.

reed dismantled an old bike that somebody left at the street in front of their house.  i have no idea why, but he enjoys his tools.

dog puzzle...

william decided that he wanted poached eggs.  he googled it and made/ate 4 of them for breakfast.

only three boys live here.  but, there are 7 ripstiks in my garage.  i guess this is the neighborhood ripstik storage.

more school

these two were on a team for a neighborhood hide and seek game.  i think noel was in charge.  reed just followed directions.  :)

easter sunday selfie.  chase was working.

break from math...

kroger pick-up gone wrong.  i didn't order any of these items.  but, i can now provide tacos and broccoli for 4000 people.

music man...

 william explaining probability to reed.

they made limeade, and william learned how to rim a glass.  i realize this is not in most homeschool curriculums, but desperate times, y'all...

art lesson...

algebra in bed...

sesame beef tacos...

masked up...

annual easter eggs...

chase got a new set up so he could work from home.  looks like he could land a rover on the moon, but whatever.

wes was not a fan of the westing game book, but he escaped the escape room that his teacher had set up.  and, he was more than happy to be finished!

chase and i were outside working on getting him riding a bike with that big boot and talking to neighbors.  when we came back home, wes and reed had started a fire.  they stacked the bricks and everything.  you would have thought that they would have asked first, but they did a pretty good job.  we had a fun afternoon sitting around the fire roasting marshmallows and burning up everything we could find!!

practicing...

reed logged out of accelerated math for the very last time.  he mastered all of the objectives in the 4th grade library, 5th grade library, and the 6th grade library.  lots of math for him this year!

730pm is the best time to be outside.

thank goodness for tennis courts during quarantine....

"hey.  hey, mom.  when are all these people going to leave the house?"
