learning fair 2012

today, the K4 - 2nd grades showed off what they had learned this year.  there were tri-fold boards with everything from creation to abraham lincoln to babe ruth to legoland.  there are some smart little people running around at this school.

reed and anne reece got there early to check it all out.

(i've never thought of reed as a "big" kid.  anne reece is 4.  he's 2.  maybe she's just little!!!  or else i have a giant on my hands!)

and in the process, he found the "chicken nugget cows" and demanded a picture.  he loves him some chick-fil-a.

william with his board, brother, and friends....

wes' class didn't brave the chaos of the gym.  they just showed their dinosaurs off in front of their classroom.

these kids all did a great job, but man...i'm glad i'm through with school!!

snakes and snails and puppy dog tails

after supper tonight i looked outside and saw wes playing intently by himself.  i walked outside and found him sitting on the ground with 10 snails in a pile beside him.

me:  "wes, where did you get all those snails?"
wes: "at school."

(he comes home at 1130.  this was 7pm.)

me:  "well, where have they been all afternoon?"
wes: "in my pocket."

of course.

riding buddies

chase got my old bike out of the attic a few days ago.  i dusted off about 7 years worth of dust, and then i immediately had some new riding buddies!!

let me just say for the record that i enjoy riding a bike along side these people much more than a kid's scooter!  :)

x games...here we come!

i'm a little partial to the idea of sitting on the side of a tennis court watching my kid play, but wes may have other plans for me.  he is all about his scooter.  and he's pretty good at it, too.  last week, i took him to the skate park for the first time.  he was the only person there, and he thought it was the greatest thing ever!

i took william's scooter (for me) just so i could keep up with him while we made our way around the lake over to the skate park.  let me preface this by saying that i can function quite well on a scooter myself.  however, i was perfectly happy sitting in the bleachers and watching him conquer all those ramps.  i'm a flat ground scooter rider.  but he wasn't going to be happy until i raced him "down this ramp, around to that one and then up that one.  first one there wins.  go!"  so there i go.  i'm just glad you didn't read in the newspaper the next morning "mom of 3 breaks neck while at skate park."  who knew those ramps were so slippery?????  i made it halfway up one of them and stuck my foot out so i could just walk up the rest of the way.  yeah...did i mention they were slippery?  all of you moms planning on riding your child's scooter up a ramp at the skate park, take a note....those ramps are slippery!  thankfully, i didn't end up back in surgery or with another cast of some sort.  but i did learn my lesson....the bleachers are a great place for me!!

wes, on the other hand, may be doing tricks off of those bleachers.  i have to get a tennis racket or golf club in his hands ASAP!

he thinks he's big!

the rails came off of reed's bed recently, and he's loving it.  he made wes come upstairs to see his new bed, and he thinks it's great that he can climb out of bed from any spot...not just the end.

he thinks he's so big.  seeing as how he is always trying to climb on wes' bike, he also thinks he can ride a bike without training wheels like his brothers.  i'm thinking one good fall is going to prove to him that he's not as big as he thinks he is.  and that's just fine by me!!

it's ok, reed.

in 12 years when i'm in your position, i'm sure i'll feel the exact same way!
