this year's relocation

the beach was graced with our presence last week.  i have to admit, it is getting easier to pack now a days since i don't have to load down the car with diapers, pack 'n plays, booster seats, etc.  but i still had to bring most of my kitchen cabinets because an hour is about as long as we can make it around here without some sort of food.  i guess i'll be dealing with this for about 15 more years.  baby steps, people.  anyway, after driving there in the rain with an 80% chance for more the next day, we made the most of every opportunity to get out there as soon as we arrived!

the place we stayed was super nice.  however, they completely messed up our sleeping arrangements (and didn't bother to even notify us until check-in....grrrr), so the full size bunk beds that everybody was so excited about turned into just one bed.

it was a little bit of a hassle the first night because "he's touching me!  he won't scoot over! etc!!!!"  but they were too tired to complain before passing out every other night!  so i guess it wasn't terrible, but some advance notice would have been nice!

anyway, the next morning we woke up to no rain but a big green blob headed right for us on the radar. so we made our way down to the beach for a little bit before the rain hit!

our baseball game got interrupted by the impending weather.  see those nasty clouds?!?

so....the rest of the day was spent at the indoor pool!

but we managed to have plenty of fun while we were there.  we, of course, hit up the putt putt course to show off our skills!

after that first day of rain, we got plenty of play time in the sunshine.

i tried to get one of those really cute pictures of everybody jumping in at the same time.  this is the best that i did.  for the record, my kids are completely unable to coordinate timing and jump on 3!!

but we can totally chill while eating snacks and watching the other kids having a water gun fight.

i think the biggest kid won!!

the next to last night, we ate some really good food at peg leg pete's and then finished the night off with some sparklers that my mom had saved from several of her weddings!

and some frisbee in the dark, too!

the last day, we finished up the ice cream in the freezer...

and put our boat to use one last time!

while it's definitely getting easier, i still don't feel any more relaxed or rested after returning home from that vacation.  ahem...relocation.  i guess i might have to wait 15 years for that too, huh???  :)  but i wouldn't trade those smiles above for anything.

happy father's day....

...to my daddy!

i mean...really.  is there anybody else that can rock a suit like that?  i think not.

....to an awesome father-in-law.

i'm sorry all you other ladies had to miss out on this one!

....to my grandfather!

how many great-grandfathers play wii with their great-grandkids?  i lucked out with this one, too!

what great examples of godly men i have in my life!  i'm so thankful for them all.  and in y'all's honor, we've been rocking out to the temptations and the beach boys on pandora today.  i'll save each of you a dance around the kitchen!  happy father's day!

over

our baseball seasons have come and gone.  we had two great seasons with much improvement shown by everybody on each team.  and while they are a little sad that it's over, a trophy made the end of the year much better!

until next year....

another one joined the team

wes has spent many hours at the city pool just sitting and watching or waiting on william.  this past week he got to join in the fun!

he and laurie were happy to pose for me on the side of the pool.  can you see the excitement?

i wouldn't think swim team would be something to be so happy about.  it looks like hard work to me!  but, they were still smiling each day after practice so i guess we call that success!

my golfers

sometimes when i'm playing golf, i'll get behind a group of 4 men.  in the time that it takes me to play an entire hole (and i'm walking!), those 4 men will have made it from the green to their cart to the next tee box.  to say they are slow is an understatement.  a blind turtle could probably play faster than they do.  but i can't get upset at them.  they are pushing 90, and everything they do is slow.  i don't know how one of them even swings a club because he has trouble walking.  but they are having a grand old time!  they are laughing and sharing stories while playing a game they love, albeit at an excruciatingly painful pace!!  i usually just get to a spot where i can skip in front of them and play on.  then i'll come back to the holes i've missed later.  this would probably make most people behind them upset.  it makes me laugh.  mostly because i know that in 50+ years, my kids will be that turtle group!!!

wes, william, mason, and clay

these 4 boys have spent a good bit of time swinging clubs together.  they finished up golf camp this past week.  i love that they will have a foundation in a sport that they can play for the rest of their lives.  not that i don't love all sports and hope to be cheering in different high school gyms across our state, but how many 90 year olds do you know that play baseball, soccer or basketball?  they may not be able to hit it long or hit it straight at 90, but at least they will be able to be out there together enjoying it!

"golf is the closest game to the game we call life.  you get bad breaks from good shots;  you get good breaks from bad shots - but you have to play the ball where it lies."  - Bobby Jones

from the mouth of babes...

i was in the car a few days ago with the little people, and we were discussing the upcoming mayoral election in town.  it's kind of hard not to because there are signs every 5 feet along the side of the road.  ya know...just in case you forget his name, there is going to be another sign 3 feet from it.  obviously, i'm not a fan of political signs.  or at least, i'm not a fan of 400 of the same signs within one mile of each other.  do they think i'm an idiot?

anyway....

william:  "so, jason shelton and fred pitts are trying to get to be mayor, right?"

me:  "yep."

william:  "so who are you voting for?"

(i'm just going to leave that part of the conversation out.)

william:  "is jason shelton a christian?  is fred pitts a christian?"

me:  "well i don't know either of them personally, but i think so."

william:  "well i hope they are both christians so that way we will have a christian as our mayor no matter who wins."

wes:  "yeah.  we don't want them to be like that crazy obama."
