he might need to work on the compassion part

william's class has been talking about doctors, nurses, and dentists for the past week or so. they have practiced doctoring on each other and have discussed which foods are healthy for you and which are not. he loves putting his skills and knowledge into practice.

case in point:
this sunday, william's sunday school teacher informed me that he played doctor with her when the sunday school lesson was over. he looked in her ears and in her mouth, and he found them to be in good condition. then he looked at her and said, "you need to lay off the french fries because we aren't supposed to eat those all the time!"

sorry, miss emory!! maybe this week, you should just let him look at your teeth!

better late than never!

the little people never got their big christmas present because it rained for 40 days and 40 nights in december. so, since it finally dried out for a few days, we were able to get the new "big slide" installed and going.

to say that they love it would be an understatement!

happy birthday to my partner in crime!

this is mandy.

today is she is 30 something years old.

we won't go into details, but let's make it known that she is definitely older than me. and always will be.

the first time we met, it was my freshman year of college. we were in line at the gym for physicals, and she tried to make some kind of small talk. yeah, right. my one word answers didn't really lead us into a deep conversation, and she mistook that for snooty. (candace is nodding her head right now totally understanding this.) anyway, she left thinking i was mean, and i left thinking she had a big mouth. only one of us was right. everybody who knows her will agree with me on this one!!

anyway, our first road trip was a mere week away. i was on the seat behind her. after listening to her gripe for what seemed like an eternity about her loser boyfriend, i finally jumped in and told her that she was going to have to put on her big girl panties and get over this moron, or i was going to pull my racket out of my bag and beat her with it.

after that, we had about 12 hours to get to know each other in that van. and know each other, we did! we were pretty much inseparable throughout college, and i don't think we've been more than a week without talking to each other since.

i was looking through some old pictures last night, and i was giggling every time i got to a new one! i couldn't figure out for the life of me which one to put in this "happy birthday" post. so, i just decided to put quite a few. (forgive the the shoddiness of the pics...most were from a day and age where we all used disposable cameras for our photo needs!) i won't go into details about each one because i know nobody cares. but, i had to let her get a laugh on her birthday! and, yes i know that many of them look as though we are rednecks. but, when you a put a girl from the delta and a girl from neshoba county together...what do you expect?

happy birthday, friend!! next time i'm in town, we will celebrate. execpt celebrations at this age will involve sweet tea and a bedtime of 9 o'clock. because i am a little crazy in my old age!

meeting mary laine

this weekend, i went to greenwood to meet my friend kathryn's new baby girl, mary laine. just so y'all know...she is named after me! thank you, very much! that, of course, means she will grow up to be the coolest person ever! well, at least in greenwood. i mean, she does have to follow in the footsteps of her namesake! :)

she is a cutie, and she is making it way too easy on her mama and daddy with all the sleeping and no fussing thing that she has going on. i told her that she was lazy, and that she really need to wake up and scream or something. she didn't listen. we will work on that obedience later!

although she did open her eyes for this picture...

she spent the whole entire day pretty much like this.

so, after 3 months of bedrest and 2 weeks of being of a mom, we hired grandma and grandpa to baby-sit (or to put it more accurately...watch mary laine sleep), and had a girls only dinner.

when we returned, we found out that the little kid hadn't woken up or made a peep. can my next one please take a few hints?? otherwise, i'm sending him/her to the delta to live for the first few months.

i want my dada...all the time

wes is obsessed with all things chase right now.

when he wakes up, he wants dada to get him out of bed. he wants to be in the same room with dada at all times. heaven forbid chase get up to go to the bathroom or go in another room for some reason.

when chase leaves for work in the morning, it's a complete disaster.

when he wakes up from his nap in the afternoon, wes will go sit by the back door and cry/scream/throw a fit until dada walks in the door and picks him up. you get the picture!

although it gets a little old listening to the wailing, i don't really mind at all. plus, i can't help but smile when i look at this pitiful face!!

you can just see the love!

i don't think that's what the bible meant

earlier today, the two little people were sitting in the kitchen eating a snack while i was thinking about starting on supper. william got up from his chair and walked over to wes.

"wes...love your neighbor as yourself. now, gimme one of your chips."

i've obviously got some work to do.

it's like i'm living with a miniature joey

if you've never been a fan of the tv show, friends, then that title isn't going to make a lick of sense to you. if so, well then....

do you remember that episode when phoebe was trying to teach joey how to speak french so he could land a role in a play? well, i'm totally phoebe, and wes is joey. except that we are trying to speak english. and not a bunch of it. just a word or two.

it goes something like this...
wes walks to the cabinet where the cups are and points, then screams.
me: "you want something to drink?"
wes: nods his head yes
me: "can you say cup?"
wes: "taaa-eeeeee"
me: "no, that doesn't sound anything like cup. say, cup!"
wes: "eeee-aahhh"
me: "not really. can you say cuh?"
wes: "cuh."
me: "yeah! can you say up?"
wes: "up."
me: "good. now put it together. say, cup!"
wes: "ahbadooooooo"
me: "nevermind. here's your drink."

(i mean, seriously, how hard is it? we ride down the road by a construction site, and the kid screams, "tactuh! tactuh!")

me: "can you say thank you?"
wes: "uh-uh"
me: "say thank."
wes: "tank"
me: "say you"
wes: "oooo"
me: "thank you?"
wes: "ahbladeeeee"

this is why i'm insane by the end of the day!

me: "can you say i love you, mama?"
wes: "uh oooo, mama."

well, he loves me and tractors. i guess there could be worse things!
