berries

i'm not a huge fan of the blueberry.  but the other 4 people that live in this house think that little blue berry is a little piece of heaven.  it is by far one of chase's favorite foods, and i'm not sure that he likes that the little people love them as much as he does.  because...they don't last very long around here.  he even has my grandmother bring him this blueberry congealed salad jello thing with a whipped, cream cheese topping every time she comes.  and then he gets mad when william and wes devour half of it before he gets home.  anyway...3 summers ago, we planted some blueberry bushes along our side fence in hopes of him getting a bowl of cereal out of the deal.  they don't bloom the first summer you plant them.  last year, he fought with the birds.  this year....he covered those suckers up with netting early, and he has way more than a bowl of cereal.  bumper crop, people!!

and since he loves me, he planted some blackberries as well.  because those are actually good!

even though our few bushes are doing very well, they won't supply him with enough to make it through the winter.  so this past weekend, we went to pontotoc to pick our own.

william and wes started out picking, but they ended up eating most of their harvest.

and they thought it was great fun to feed reed in the process.  poor kid was stuffed!

after an hour, we came away with this.

and apparently that isn't enough.  we are headed back in a week or two for more.   but let me state for the record...i don't care how many blueberries we have in our freezer.  i'm not making that blueberry jello congealed thing.  he'll have to call mamoo for that!
